Gaithersburg Church of the Nazarene to host Live Nativity

Gaithersburg Church of the Nazarene (GCN), 8921 Warfield Road (the corner of Goshen and Warfield roads), will continue its tradition of presenting the Christmas story through a Live Nativity on Sunday, Dec. 16. The outdoor program, which is free, has performances at 5 and 6 p.m.

The program features live animals, costumed performers and a narration of the birth of Jesus Christ. After each performance, attendees are invited inside the church for hot chocolate and cookies.

According to Senior Pastor Ben Spitler, GCN has been presenting the Live Nativity since the early 1990s. “It’s one way we as a church family keep the focus on Christ in Christmas,” he said. “We desire to give the Montgomery Village community this opportunity to remember the Christmas story and what this season is all about.”

People of all ages enjoy the program, and children are especially excited to see the animals. Over the years, local farmers have provided lambs, donkeys and goats to lend authenticity to the stable where the Bible says that Christ was born. After each performance, individuals can get a closer look at the animals and may even be able to pet them.

In addition to the Live Nativity, GCN invites the community to morning holiday services on Sundays, Dec. 23 and Dec. 30 at 10 a.m., and a Christmas Eve candlelight service on Monday, Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.
