Change in leadership for 6th District Police

As of Sunday January 5, Commander Paul Liquorie has taken over as commander of the Montgomery County Police 6th District. Commander Dinesh Patil, who has been in command of the 6th District since 2015, has been reassigned to police headquarters.

Commanders Liquorie and Patil started their police careers together in the 1994 academy class and served together in Silver Spring in Patrol and the Special Assignment Team, working closely together over the years. Liquorie’s previous service in Major Crimes, Criminal Investigations, Special Investigations, Special Operations Divisions and Commander of the 2nd District, among other work will maintain a level of excellence in the 6th District.

Liquorie is a graduate of American University and the Naval Post Graduate School of Homeland Security, LeadershipMontgomery and served as a United States Marine prior to joining MCPD. He understands crime fighting, crime analysis and deployment, as well as long term strategy and the importance of community outreach and partnership.

Lieutenant Ian Clark will also be transferred to headquarters to work with Commander Patil, and Lieutenant Brian Merryman, recently promoted, will take his place. Merryman comes from the Silver Spring District as the supervisor of the Investigative Section. He has a very strong work ethic and will be a great addition to the 6D team. Lieutenants Hudson and Friz will also remain at 6D.

Regarding the changes, Commander Patil remarked, “I cannot think of anyone better to take the reigns of 6D. I have appreciated my time working with all of you and I truly believe we made things better together since 2015. I appreciate Lieutenant Hudson serving as the acting commander for the last nine months, and wish Commander Liquorie all the best in this new assignment and continued success to the 6th District community.”
