Recycling collection remains an essential function, as it is part of the overall health and hygiene of the community. Residents should continue to place recycling materials out for collection following their community’s scheduled and guidelines.
Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection Division of Solid Waste Services recently updated its collection/sorting guidelines for blue bins. Check below for what items should go in the bins and where other items should be placed for pickup.
Residents are asked to follow these guidelines to help keep pickup on a normal schedule and reduce the number of missed pickups in their neighborhood.
What goes into blue recycling bins?
Put these materials together into your blue recycling bin for "commingled" curbside recycling pickup:
- aluminum foil products
- cans - aluminum, steel, bi-metal
- glass bottles and jars
- plastic bottles, containers, tubs and lids
Do not put these materials into your blue bin: Recycling Contaminants Flyer.
Bundle your paper items separately, or set them out in a paper recycling cart.
