Since March, Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF), like many companies, has been evaluating the impacts of COVID-19 on business operations, practices, personnel and budgets. During that time, the MVF Board and staff have worked hard to maintain as many services as possible for our residents. And with the exception of 3 months, printing and delivering the Village News has been part of that; thank you for your understanding and patience earlier this year.
On October 22, the MVF Board of Directors approved the MVF 2021 Operating Budget and assessment rates for homeowners in the Village. This budget aimed to keep assessment rates flat (the same as 2020) and did so through savings in personnel, programs and operating procedures. One of those changes included the further reduction of printing of the Village News. As evidenced during the first few months of quarantine, more and more residents have turned to the website and social media for their news and information. As a result, the print readership, as well as the advertising revenue, continues to decrease, making it harder to justify continued print media in the same capacity.
Beginning in 2021, the Village News will be printed quarterly instead of monthly, with issues in February, May, August and November to coincide with Recreation Guides and program registration. This means that the Village News will only be delivered to your doorstep four times each year. However, news and information will continue to be uploaded online on a regular, if not daily, basis. Also included in the reduction of print will be the Home Improvement Guide and Residents Guide.
Additionally, because of these changes, residents can expect to see a few changes in the quarterly print issues. The meeting calendar will now span three months of meetings, events and programs that are available at the time of print; issues may contain relevant, but past news, as well as upcoming announcements; and MVF and local association budget, election and other announcements may be shifted to fit the print schedule.
Residents can always find the latest news items on the home page of the www.montgomeryvillage.com website, directly from the Village News site, www.mvnews.online, or from social media posts on Facebook and Twitter. Additionally, the top five news stories are e-mailed each Friday to all residents who have a free account on the website. To subscribe to the news blast, simply click “Join/Login” in the upper right-hand corner of the website and sign up for the account.
Thank you for your support and patience during these changing times.
