Letters to the Editor - Robert Portanova

Editor:

As we approach summer, let's imagine a tranquil, quiet sunny day—with only the sound of the wind and birds. Now imagine that same day when an army of landscape contractors invade our neighborhoods turning that tranquil day into a blaring, noise polluted afternoon. But it doesn't have to be this way.

The obsessive, overuse of landscape contractors and their destructive practices have turned our neighborhoods into a loud, stressed filled vacuum. It doesn't have to be this way.

I urge all residents, HOA and MVF Board members, to reconsider hiring these contractors or severely reducing the frequency of their maintenance schedules.

A healthy environment is one that is allowed to grow, flourish and blossom into lush vegetation, providing countless benefits to people and animals. Landscape contractors are over mowing, over weedwacking, over blowing, and doing enormous harm to our turf grass and natural vegetation, contributing to erosion and run off. When it comes to the environment, less is more.

Is it possible that we can have a silent summer - with only the sound of the winds and the birds, on a tranquil summer day?
